FAQ

How long does it take for Corten steel to develop its rust patina?

Typically, the protective rust layer starts to form within a few weeks of outdoor exposure, fully maturing into its deep orange-brown colour over 1-3 years, depending on local weather conditions.

Does Corten steel stain surrounding surfaces?

During the initial weathering period, some rust runoff can occur, which might stain porous surfaces like concrete or paving. We can advise on suitable drainage or sealing solutions to minimise this, especially during installation.

What kind of maintenance does Corten steel require?

Virtually none! Once the patina has developed, Corten steel is self-protecting. No painting, no varnishing, just enjoy its evolving beauty. A simple rinse with water is all that's ever needed to clean it.
